There's a child waitin' by a mailbox Lookin' up, wishin' his legs would grow He looks around for somethin' to stand on But everything is covered with snow There's a green recycle bin lyin' nearby And if it's turned upside-down, well it works fine And that's what he discovered without any help at all It's amazing what you can do if you just try And if you keep your eyes on the orange coastline Taken by the crimson sky Don't lose track of where you're goin' And don't forget to say goodbye Don't lose track Of where you're at right now There's a bottle of wine sittin' on my desk now It's been sittin' for quite some time Waitin' for an occasion, somethin' special It's been waitin' for quite a while And if you keep your eyes on the orange coastline Taken by the velvet sky Don't lose track of where you're goin' And don't forget to say goodbye Don't lose track Of where you're at right now When the coal was gone we burned the paddles The sails, the mast, and the figurehead We spotted land in early afternoon And I ran home to find my bed And if you keep your eyes on the orange coastline Taken by the crimson sky Don't lose track of where you're goin' And don't forget to say goodbye Don't lose track Of where you're at right now

Locked inside this prison cell Way too broke to pay my way for bail I'm just sittin' in a corner Tryin' to avoid that awful smell There's a convicted convict in the cell next door And I left my pistol in the bedroom drawer But then they lifted me to a back room And in walks a woman in a business suit She's got the look of a lady of fire And fire is hot and with the proper attire, it's The inspector was beautifully ruthless Acusin' me of bendin' the truth I told her if I was gonna lie Woman you know I wouldn't lie to you A smile crept across her face And suddenly I knew I was in her good graces She coulda dropped the dime, but instead we spent our time Runnin' the bases, if you know what I mean Lady Love Lady Love I wanna know what you see with those fiery eyes Lady Love Lady Love I wanna know what you see with those fiery eyes Just call me back tomorrow, cause tonight I've been hypnotized

Fallow 03:05
Cracked sidewalks, shattered pavement Clearing smoke, an emptied cartridge Burning leaves, and empty expressions Hollow trees, you're turning green I can't believe the devastation left behind on the forest floor With taciturn lining Fields swallowed whole, though its fallow still it's cold Kneel against the lightning; An electrified example of a silhouette in smoke Burn the candle from both ends, I cannot see around the bend But if I could, I might jump ship It's sinkin' in, so deep wthin My consciousness is waerin' thin But I can't see beyond my eyes With taciturn lining Fields swallowed whole, though its fallow still it's cold Kneel against the lightning; An electrified example of a silhouette in smoke

Well baby you know I'll miss you And you know that it's true I don't write these songs for nothin, Well, yeah I do, But still I'll miss you And I dunno when I'll be back So love me 'til the mornin' My bag's already packed Well this freight train's a comin' It's bearin' down the tracks I better but my feet to runnin' Cause I'm runnin' out of slack, You know I'll miss you But just the same I gotta go I can't stay another evenin' I gotta hit that gravel road Well I was walkin' down the highway By exit thirty-one I saw headlights in the distance So I held out my thumb Somehow I got picked up By a lovely young brunette We drove off into the mornin' In her daddy's new corvette Well when we stopped for breakfast I asked her where she's from She said her family lives in Memphis, but she was movin' on She stoke the car keys And a box of jewelry for the way She said her friends are like cigarettes And she just couldn't shake the taste Well down in Kansas City By the old Missouri line We got picked up by the police and I was facin' time But then she kissed me And I coulda sworn it'd be alright But then they pulled me away And they locked my cell up tight Well sixteen hours later I saw her walk back in She walked straight to the counter Then she turned to me and grinned, She'd sold a necklace To get me out Well the cops took the vette We stole a Mustang anyhow

Moonlight 02:53
I saw the footprints of a bluesharp on a lonely peaceful night I began trailin' him when the sun went out of sight Lit by moonlight, I caught a glimpse about an hour ago Then he turned and ran, he played a song, this is how it goes: I've got the echoes of a bluesharp ringing in my ears There's another footprint, now I must be gettin' near I can't wait to find him, I gotta hear what he"s gotta say He older and wiser, and he really knows how to play I saw the footprints of a bluesharp on a lonely peaceful night I began trailin' him when the sun went out of sight When I finally found him, he looked at me and said "ya already know" Then he turned and ran, he played a song, this is how it goes:

Seven years and sixteen days ago I met you I made that number up cause I don't give a damn All I know is that I'll love you forever Forever, I'll be there to hold your hand I can't wait to wake up by your side Every mornin' for the rest of my life Someone to share this life with, to have and to hold Someone to laugh with as we grow old From summer to spring and fall to winter I'll be there to pull your splinters And kiss where it hurts til it don't hurt no more I wanna be there when you smile Forever and a while to hold your hand Here we sit together on our back porch Watchin' the lightning as the storm rolls in I can't think of any place I'd rather be Although, it don't matter where I am as long as you're with me From summer to spring and fall to winter I'll be there to pull your splinters And kiss where it hurts til it don't hurt no more I wanna be there when you smile I wanna match you mile for mile I wanna see your pretty face For the rest of my days and hold your hand Seven years and sixteen days ago I met you I made that number up cause I don't give a damn All I know is that I'll love you forever Forever, I'll be there to hold your hand

Flat faced houses line the streets and with a word they turn their backs upon the tenants, a menace to the melody that rides upon the streetcar, over the overpass and down along the freeway that leads off to another place where It's all relative to weather conditions are the same, and then the news descends the staircase The leaves change color as if they know, aware that their season's almost over, a sobering reminder that the world continues turning, movin' at a steady pace along its given freeway, creating patterns and melodies where It's all relative to whether conditions are the same, and then the news descends the staircase It's all relative to weather conditions are the same, and then the news descends the staircase

Well there's a rusty boat floatin' by an old wooden dock Well I guess you'd call in floatin', but it looks like it got stuck And in the hull there's a hammer, along with the debris Of the years gone past, maybe two or three or maybe more And as the sun goes down he finds himself awake Thinkin' bout the things that he can't go back and change Cause it's all gone and done with and written in the book And I dunno who keeps it, I never bothered to look I figure it's all taken care of, and for granted it may seem But I'll cross that bridge when I come to it, and enjoy the time between now and then And if I never see you I wish you all the best, my friend Well he's got a silver dollar on a pedestal at home With a light shone upon it like a spotlight on a throne It reminds him what he's there for as he's countin' down the days Well he never meant to be here, but he can't seem to pull away anymore So his boat's just rustin' way back in the woods Of some land that he'd acquired back when the real estate was good He'd been there once or twice, built a dock on a pond He lost track of a hammer, never found where it had gone, but I've been there And if I never see you That doesn't mean that I don't care Well I ran into a friend that I hadn't seen in years I saw him at the bar and we had a couple beers He told me he'd been married, had an ex-wife and two kids And his attention was divided, he said he really missed the gigs He looked at me and smiled, there's somethin' to be said For livin' in a van you can park by the liquor shed every now and then And if I never see you I wish you all the best, my friend

I'm a regular jack of all trades But my bargaining skills were always best in the bedroom The other night I played cards with the spades The other suits were out in L.A. Oh, if I could only see the overwhelming, undisputed truth I might just know That it all just boils down Yesterday I took a ride on the train And I watched the tracks 'til the sleepless fell away The sky was dark, and it looked like rain But the water dripped down to form a symphony of sound Oh, if I could only see the overwhelming, undisputed truth I might just know That it all just boils down I'm a regular jack of all trades But my bargaining skills were always best in the bedroom The other night I played cards with the spades The other suits were out in L.A.
